The base here is genuinely simple — two 1x12 leg boards pocket-holed straight to the underside of the tabletop with a 1/2" overhang, plus a pair of 1x4 aprons measured directly off the assembled legs rather than cut to a fixed number up front. Measure the actual distance between your two legs at the tabletop before cutting the aprons — this is what keeps the base square even if the tabletop overhang varies slightly from board to board.
The hutch on top holds a light-up mirror rather than being decorative on its own, and it's built as two separate shelf sections joined by a top board before the whole hutch connects to the base with screws. Pocket holes work for the hutch, but plain brad nails and glue are just as good and easier to hide — the plan is explicit that the hutch carries no structural load, so there's no reason to over-build it the way the base needs to be built.
Build both shelf sections first, then add the top, and only connect the finished hutch to the base last.

Drill three pocket holes on one end of each leg board. Attach to the underside of the tabletop with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, leaving a 1/2" overhang on each end.
Measure the distance between the two legs at the tabletop. Cut the aprons to this measurement, drill pocket holes on each end and along one edge, and attach with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws.
Build the two hutch shelf sections with brad nails and glue.
Attach the hutch top to the two shelf sections with brad nails and glue.
Attach the assembled hutch to the base with screws.
Sand all surfaces and apply primer and paint, or stain and poly.
