A hutch unit for a modular bar system, built around a removable interlocking plywood wine grid that slides out through the front.

This project is shown built from 3/4" plywood ripped into 11-1/2"-wide strips; you can use solid 1x12 instead, but measure your actual board width first and adjust measurements accordingly.
Drill pocket holes along the side and top edges of both side pieces for attaching the top and legs in later steps. Then, on the outside faces, nail 1x2 trim at the top and bottom with 1-1/4" finish nails and glue, keeping the outside edges flush.

Attach the legs to the sides with 1-1/4" pocket-hole screws and wood glue.

Build the bottom shelf with pocket holes and attach it to the sides the same way, flush to the bottom.

Attach the top, flush to the front, along with its trim pieces.

Before cutting the wine grid, dry-fit the carcass together and check it for square — the grid pieces below need a true rectangular opening to slide into.

Clamp the plywood pieces for the tall dividers together and cut them all at once as a stack — this keeps every slot lining up between pieces. You need three tall dividers.

Cut the seven short dividers the same way, clamped together as a stack.

Slide the tall and short dividers together to form the interlocking wine grid.
Insert the assembled grid into the hutch. To make it easy to remove later, keep the small shelf pieces removable from the front — you can then pull the shelves out, collapse the tall dividers, and slide the whole grid out through the front.

Nail the back panel on with glue. Secure the hutch to its base to avoid a tipping hazard, and also screw it to a wall stud behind it — this is a tall, front-loaded piece and must not be left freestanding.
