Build the hutch's back frame flat on the floor, keeping every edge flush, fastened with the longer 2-3/4" screws.

Build the front frame the same way, but leave out the bottom two rails so the main workbench stays open underneath.

Join the front and back frames with the 13" top side rails, which set the bench's overall depth.

Build the lower shelf frame separately, then attach it to the back rail and level it against the front frame.

Attach the workbench tabletop support rails and the main center support, checking level as you go, then stand the short legs into place and fasten them with screws and glue.
