Most toy kitchen sinks are purely decorative — a molded plastic bowl with a fixed faucet that does nothing. This one actually runs water, using a small submersible pump hidden inside the cabinet to push water up through a real faucet assembly built from plumbing parts.
Choose the plastic basin first, then build the wood cabinet around it. Every other dimension in this project derives from the container's footprint, so there's no fixed cut list to follow — measure your own basin before cutting a single board.
The faucet itself is real hardware — a pipe flange, PVC pipe, and elbow fittings — spray-painted to match, not a molded plastic look-alike. That's what makes the running water believable instead of gimmicky.

A board foot is a volume, not a length: 144 cubic inches, or a piece 1″ thick by 12″ wide by 12″ long. The “≈” note beside each row shows roughly how much 3/4″ × 6″ board that works out to.
Overall cost: $$. Lumber prices vary by region, species, and season, so we give a band rather than a figure we would only be pretending to know.
Choose a plastic container to serve as the sink basin and determine the overall cabinet size from its footprint.
Cut the wood top, front, back, and side pieces to match the container's footprint.
Join the pieces with pocket holes, building the top first, then the front and back, then the sides.
Build a faucet from the pipe flange, PVC pipe, and elbow fittings, then spray paint it to match the knobs.
Drill and install spinning knobs using a machine screw, nuts, and an end cap.
Install the submersible pump in the basin with tubing routed up through the faucet so it actually runs water.
