Attach the 1x2 top cap on top of the 1x6 shelf board with four trim screws and wood glue, driven from underneath so the screw heads stay hidden.

Attach the two side pieces to the ends of the shelf-and-cap assembly with three trim screws per side. Fill every screw head with wood filler, sand smooth once dry, and stain.
