Over-Stove Wood Shelf — Simple DIY Range Rack

This is about as small a build as this catalog carries: three boards and ten screws, made to fill the open shelf gap directly above a stove or range. It's sized here for a 34"-wide, 15"-tall opening, which is a common over-range microwave or shelf cutout — measure your own opening before cutting, since this shelf is meant to fit a specific gap rather than a standard furniture dimension.

The build order matters more than the part count suggests: the 1x2 cap attaches to the top of the 1x6 shelf board first, screwed and glued from underneath so the top screws stay hidden. Only after that assembly is together do the two 1x6 side pieces attach to the ends, three trim screws per side. Fill every screw head with wood filler before staining — at this scale, an unfilled screw head is one of the few visible details on the whole piece.
