This console is built low and wide specifically for media equipment, with three fully open 1x12 shelves framed front and back in trim rather than a single tabletop over closed storage. Build the top shelf first: pocket holes around all four sides let the 2x2 side trim attach first (inset slightly for a reveal), then the 2x2 front and back trim ties the corners together.
The legs attach to the underside of the completed top next, and the side trim on the lower shelves sits inset 3/4" from the outside of the legs — a consistent reveal line worth marking or using a spacer block for, rather than eyeballing it fresh on each shelf. Getting this inset consistent across all three shelves is what makes the finished stack of open shelves read as a single considered design rather than three boards that happen to be stacked.
The remaining shelves attach to the side trim and legs last, each one pocket-holed around all four edges exactly like the top. Because every shelf is fully open, there's no back panel and no hidden storage — this is a display-and-airflow piece, built for a TV, a soundbar, and media boxes.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Drill 3/4" pocket holes around all four sides of the top shelf board. Drill a single 1-1/2" pocket hole on each end of the 11-1/4" side trim pieces. Attach the side trim with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws and glue, then attach the front and back trim with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws (into the top) and 2-1/2" pocket hole screws (at the corners into the side trim).
Drill two 1-1/2" pocket holes on one end of each leg. Attach to the underside of the top with glue and 2-1/2" pocket hole screws.
Inset the side trim 3/4" from the outside of the legs, using a scrap piece of 1x wood as a spacer if helpful. Drill a 3/4" pocket hole on each end of the side trim and attach to the legs with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws and glue.
Drill 3/4" pocket holes around all four edges of the shelves, including into the legs. Attach to the side trim and legs with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws and glue.
Sand all surfaces and apply primer and paint, or stain and poly.
