Adding a full-height back wall panel is what separates this from a plain toy cabinet — it gives the play kitchen a backsplash-like presence and a place to eventually add painted-on details or small shelves, without adding any real complexity to the box underneath. The box itself is straightforward 1x12 construction, square and glued before the back wall goes on to lock everything true.
The oven door is the one part worth test-fitting before final attachment: hinge it into the opening and check for an even gap on all four sides before you commit, since a door that's slightly proud on one edge is the most visible flaw a build like this can have. A magnetic clasp keeps it shut without needing a mechanism a kid could pinch a finger in.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Build the box from the 1x12 sides, bottom shelf, and top using a pocket hole jig (3/4" setting, 1-1/4" pocket hole screws), 2" screws, or 2" brad nails and wood glue — whichever fastener you have on hand.
Attach the apron trim to the front of the project with finish nails or pocket hole screws.
Add the divider and shelf using the same fastening method as the rest of the box.
Hinge the door into the opening, checking for an even gap on all four sides before committing — a slightly proud edge is the most noticeable flaw on a build like this. Add the magnetic clasp, knob, and handle once you're happy with the fit.
Attach the back wall panel and its shelves with screws from the back side and wood glue.
