Step-by-step build — 3 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Build three legs for a 75"-wide daybed. If you're spanning a longer distance, add a leg about every 3 feet so the 2x4 slats don't sag under weight. Assemble with pocket screws.
Attach the back cleat to the wall studs with 2-1/2" (or longer) screws, level. Then attach the legs to the back cleat with pocket screws. At least one outer leg — preferably both — must be fastened to wall studs or a solid built-in. This wall connection is what keeps the daybed from tipping or sliding; do not skip it.
Attach the 2x4 slats across the legs with 2-1/2" screws. Space them evenly to support the mattress.
The exposed leg ends can be wrapped in plywood or planking for a finished sofa look. Sand and finish as desired.
