Welly Boot Rack

This rack solves boot storage a genuinely different way than a shelf or tray: dowels bored into a 2x3 frame hold each boot upside down by its shaft, which drains and airs them out rather than just corralling them on a floor mat. Mark the dowel locations on the two long 2x3 frame boards first, then drill pilot holes all the way through — this pilot hole is what a screw will later pass through from below to lock the dowel in place, so its size should roughly match your screw shaft.

Taping the spade bit 3/4" up from its tip is the trick that keeps this simple — it turns an ordinary 7/8" spade bit into a depth-limited bit without buying a specialty tool, letting you drill a clean 3/4"-deep dowel socket over each pilot hole rather than punching all the way through the frame board.

Glue goes in each hole before the dowel, and the screw through the pilot hole locks it in from underneath. Keep the longer dowels on the back row and the shorter ones on the front — this staggered depth is what lets two full rows of boots hang without the front row's boots blocking the back row's.
