A waterfall table's whole visual trick is that the grain appears to pour off the top and down the side without a break at the corner. That effect lives entirely in one cut: the top and side panels are both beveled at 45° on the same board sequence, so the grain lines up if — and only if — you cut them in order and don't flip a board end for end partway through. Cut the longest boards first, and once you've made a bevel cut, use the OFFCUT from that same cut as the next piece's starting reference rather than re-measuring from scratch; that's what keeps the grain wrapping continuously around two 1x12 boards' worth of tabletop and side.
The face frames (front and back) are built first and separately, from 1x3 stock mitered at 45°, pocket-screwed together, and only THEN wrapped in the 1x12 top-and-side waterfall panels — building the frames as flat, square rectangles before they carry any load makes the miters far easier to keep tight than trying to fit them in place on an assembled table.
Before any of that: the source is specific that your 1x12 stock needs to be genuinely flat — no cupping, crowning, or warping — and fully dry-acclimated to your home's humidity. A waterfall miter has almost no room for a board that moves after assembly; a table saw rip of the factory-rounded edges gives you a cleaner, more precise glue line than the mill edge does.
The shelf and inside panels add storage and visual weight underneath, and the two 1x2 center supports brace the wide unsupported span of both the top and the shelf — without them, a 60" span in 3/4" stock will develop a visible sag over time, especially with anything heavy stored on the lower shelf.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Cut the 1x3 face-frame boards to length with 45° miters, ends not parallel. On the shorter boards, drill two 3/4" pocket holes on each end, positioned so the pocket hole won't be visible on the outside of the frame once assembled.
Assemble with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws and glue. Build two frames and check they're identical before moving on — any mismatch here shows up as a crooked table later.
From one 1x12 board, cut the first top panel with both ends beveled at 45° — check the cut is square across the full width with a speed square, and set the offcut aside; you'll reference it for the side panel cuts. Cut the second top panel the same way.
Drill pocket holes to join the two top panels together edge to edge, and drill additional pocket holes for attaching a face frame to each side. Clamp each joint as you glue and screw it, then carefully attach the whole joined top to one of the face frames — the frame and the top should sit perfectly flush and smooth across the joint.
Repeat the same bevel-cutting and pocket-hole process for the two side panels, using the offcuts you reserved to keep the grain direction and figure matching the top. Drill pocket holes on these too for attaching to both face frames.
Attach the two side panels to the top assembly with 1-1/4" brad nails, keeping the mitered corner tight and flush all the way across — this is the joint the whole waterfall effect depends on.
Attach the sides and top assembly to the second face frame, matching it up the same way as the first — the table should now stand as a mitered box with a face frame at each end.
Cut the bottom shelf boards and drill pocket holes to join them together, plus additional 3/4" pocket holes around all sides for attaching inside the face frames.
Carefully place the joined shelf inside the frame and attach with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, keeping the top of the shelf flush with the top of the face-frame insides as you go.
Measure and cut the inside side panels to fit. Join them together at the center with pocket holes, then place the assembly inside the face frame and nail it to the table — add screws from the bottom as well for extra hold.
Make sure your 1x12s are fully acclimated to your home's moisture (they may have dried further since purchase) before measuring and cutting this step's boards to fit the inside width.
Drill a pocket hole on each end and three more along the length of each 1x2. Attach roughly 20" in from the sides, on both the top and the bottom shelf, with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws — this is what keeps a 60" span from developing a visible sag over time.
Sand the whole piece and finish with stain, whitewash, or your choice of topcoat.
