The tilt-out is a small piece of kitchen genius: the cabinet's front door carries the trash can on a shelf, hinged at the BOTTOM, so pulling the knob tips the whole can out toward you and letting go swings it shut. This build's best discovery is in its last step — the geometry self-closes. The weight of the can and door base holds everything shut with no magnetic catch at all.
The box is plain 1x12 work. The door is where the craft lives: a pocket-holed 1x3 frame, a bottom shelf inset 1" and dropped 1/8" (that reveal is the clearance that lets the door swing without scraping), 45°-cut side wings that cradle the can, and a 1/4" ply panel. Two hardware notes matter: use narrow hinges with flat-head screws at the bottom edge, and DO fit the restraint — a wire, chain, or toy-box lid support — because an unrestrained tilt door opens all the way to the floor, and the plan's phrase 'bruising your toes' is from experience.
One planning tip from step 2: if you'd like to pull the can out the BACK for emptying (nice against a wall you can walk behind), leave the center back support off until after the door is installed, then place it to suit.

Assemble the sides, top, and bottom shelf — pocket holes, 2" screws, or brads and glue all work. The bottom shelf's TOP surface sits 2-1/2" up from the floor (1-3/4" gap beneath it). Check the box square; the tilt door needs a true opening more than most doors do.
Attach the 1x3 back supports to hold the box square. But first decide: want to pull the can out the BACK for emptying? Then leave the CENTER back support off until the door is installed and placed — its final position depends on the can clearing it.
Brad-nail the front trim to the cabinet face. The opening this frames is the door's home — even reveals here decide how factory-made the finished cabinet looks.
Pocket-hole the 1x3 door frame together — 3/4" setting, 1-1/4" screws, holes on the back face.
Drill pocket holes along the door shelf's bottom edge and attach it to the frame: inset 1" from the frame edges, and held DOWN 1/8" at the bottom.
Those numbers are the mechanism. The inset lets the shelf swing into the box without striking the sides; the 1/8" drop keeps it off the cabinet floor mid-tilt. Measure them, don't eyeball them.
Cut the wing stock at 45° into two triangles, pocket-hole their edges, and attach to the door panel and shelf. The wings cradle the can through the tilt — without them the can leans out with the door and makes its own exit.
Cut the 1/4" ply to fit inside the door frame and fasten with 3/4" brads and glue.
Hinge the door to the cabinet at its BOTTOM edge with the narrow flat hinges. Tilt it: the door and can weight should close it on its own — the source found no catch necessary, and yours likely won't need one either.
What it DOES need is the restraint: install the chain, wire, or lid support so the open angle stops where the can presents nicely and nowhere near the floor. Add the knob, sand, finish, drop the can in, and enjoy a kitchen where the trash disappeared into furniture.
