Step-by-step build — 5 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Lay the tabletop boards on a flat surface, edge to edge, and measure the actual assembled width. Cut the under-tabletop supports to match this real measurement. Glue and screw the supports to the underside with the shorter screws, keeping outside edges flush and checking for square.
Measure and cut the side aprons from 2x4s. Attach so they're flush with the top and ends of the tabletop assembly — they'll overhang the 2x2 supports on the underside, which is expected. Use the longer screws.
Attach the legs with the longer screws, using a square to confirm each leg sits square to the table as you attach it — two screws through the apron, then more screws driven from the inside through the 2x2 supports.
Glue and screw the leg-side aprons on with the longer screws to complete the base.
Sand every surface smooth and apply your finish of choice.
