Simple Stackable Outdoor Chairs

Mark out the chair back legs on the 2x4, keeping a consistent 1-1/2" width along the whole leg — one leg uses the entire board. If building multiple chairs, consider ripping legs from a 2x6 instead to get more legs per board and fewer cuts.

Build the chair back from the legs and back supports, fastening with 2" screws and glue.

Build the aprons and front legs, starting with the back apron and working forward. A pocket hole jig makes this quick, or use 2" screws and glue throughout.

Using a level on the side apron, attach the front seat assembly to the chair back with 2" screws and glue. It can help to add the seat boards first, since seeing them in place makes the final assembly easier to picture.

Fasten the seat boards to the aprons, then fasten the back boards to the back supports the same way.

Fill any holes with wood filler, sand every surface, and finish with an exterior-rated paint.
