This is the back wall panel for a simple playhouse — one piece of a larger build, but a genuinely useful standalone lesson in framing. If you've never built a stud wall, doing it at playhouse scale (light 2x2 furring instead of full 2x4 house framing) is a low-stakes way to learn the moves: lay out the plates, mark the stud locations, fasten square, then sheath and trim.
The one dimension trick baked into the design is the sheathing size. A full sheet of plywood is 96" long, but the panel is sized to 90" so the finished wall clears a standard 8-ft deck platform without extra cuts or wasted material. Trim 6" off a full sheet and you've got your 90" x 48" back panel with almost no offcut.
Because it's a panel that later joins the rest of the playhouse, keep it flat and square — a wall built with a twist in it fights every other wall you try to attach to it. Check for square after every stud goes in, not just at the end.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Mark both the top and bottom plates where each stud lands, then predrill all the holes in the plates. Fasten the seven studs to the plates, working across the wall.
Check for square once all the studs are fastened — measure both diagonals and adjust until they match. A wall framed out of square makes every later step harder and won't mate cleanly with the rest of the playhouse.
Take a full sheet of 1/4" plywood and trim 6" off the end to get a 90" x 48" panel. The 6" comes off so the overall wall stays under 96" and drops onto a standard 8-ft deck platform without extra cutting.
Glue and fasten the panel to the frame with 1-1/4" nails, keeping the edges flush to the plates and outer studs.
Cut the longer top and bottom 1x3 trim first and glue and nail it down with 1-1/4" nails. Then add the 1x2 side trim at the ends, keeping the outside edges flush.
When you assemble the playhouse, this back wall sits inside the gable end walls. Screw through the inside of the back wall into the gable end wall with 3" screws — you'll need to drive them at a slight angle to catch the framing.
Before finishing, prime and paint with an exterior-rated finish; this panel is fully weather-exposed.
