Simple Kitchen Island

Predrill pocket holes: two on each end of the back side of the end aprons, one on each end of the back of the bottom shelf supports, and one in the top interior of each leg. Build two matching end assemblies by attaching the legs to the end aprons. Set the bottom shelf height to whatever suits you — 7" from the floor to the bottom of the apron is a reasonable default.

Predrill pocket holes in the side aprons, two on each end of the interior side, then connect the two end assemblies with the two side aprons.

Lay the project panel top-side down on the ground and flip the leg frame upside down onto it, centered with an even reveal on all sides — about 1.5" is typical. Secure with pocket-hole screws, or countersunk screws into the legs if you're not using pocket holes. Run a bead of glue along the top of the frame for extra hold, and drive a few finish nails through the aprons into the top while the glue sets if you want extra insurance.

Attach the lower shelf supports so they sit flush with the end aprons, at the same height you set in step one.

Lay the shelf slats across the supports, evenly spaced, and attach each one down.
