Step-by-step build — 4 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Fasten the bottom to the two sides, then the top to the sides, with glue and 2" fasteners. Check the box for square — a tall sheet-goods box that racks now will fight every later step. Use the plan's measurements to set the bottom position.
Attach the 1x2 trim around the sides, outside edges flush, fastening into the top, bottom, and sides. This isn't just cosmetic: the side trim reinforces the corner joints and is what keeps a tall box from racking. Don't skip fastening it into all three.
Fasten the front top trim (1x3), also driving through the sides into its end edges — use the 2" fasteners when going through the sides. Then attach the back top trim (1x2) the same way. This frames the top and gives the crown moulding a surface to land on.
Mitre and attach the crown moulding across the front top — clean returns are what make it look bought rather than tacked on. Edge-band any exposed plywood edges, then prime and paint.
Finish the shelves separately, then set them on shelf pins so they stay adjustable to whatever you store.
