Minimalist Rustic Modern King Canopy Bed

Predrill pocket holes on the ends of the 2x8 headboard rails, two per side. Attach the first rail to the two posts at 13" up from the floor, the second at 27", and the third at 41".

Attach a single 2x8 rail to the footboard posts at 13" up, using the same pocket-hole method as the headboard.

Assemble the 2x4 bottom frame with pocket holes. Sand and finish the headboard, footboard, and 2x8 side rails now — the 2x4 supports and slats never show once the bed is built, so they don't need finishing.

Bring the pieces into the bedroom and assemble there — a finished king canopy bed rarely fits through doorways in one piece. Screw the bed frame to the headboard and footboard with 2-1/2" screws, keeping the bottom of the 2x4s flush with the bottom of the 2x8s, and drive additional screws at an angle into the 4x4 posts for extra hold.

Use pocket holes to attach the top 2x4 canopy boards to the posts. Attach each 2x8 side rail to its post at the top with a pocket hole, then reinforce by screwing from inside the 2x4 support into the back of the side rail with 2-1/2" screws.

Attach the center support legs down to the floor under the 2x4 width supports — this keeps the middle of a king-size frame from sagging under a mattress.

Lay the 1x8 or 2x8 slats across the bottom supports and screw each one down so it can't shift.
