This is a base-only project — build the rectangular 2x6 frame and its center cross brace, then attach a round tabletop you've already sourced or built separately, rather than building an octagon top and cutting it into a circle as this catalog's other round-table project does. Attach the longer 2x6 boards to the legs first to create a simple rectangle, using pocket holes and glue at every joint.
Then attach the shorter pieces to the remaining legs, and find the true center of the assembled rectangle before attaching the cross brace pieces — this center point is what the whole base's stability rests on, since the cross brace is what keeps a round top from feeling like it's balanced on a rectangle underneath it. The plan offers two base sizes (48" and 60"), and if you're building the larger 60" version, the source build intentionally added an extra inch to the base dimensions beyond the plan's original numbers specifically to reduce tipping risk under a bigger top — a real consideration worth keeping if you're building at that size.
Once the base is square and the cross brace is centered and attached, flip the tabletop upside down and attach the base to its underside — a genuinely short final step for a base this simple.
