This piece does double duty by design — the same angled-panel shape works equally well leaning magazines against as it does holding a potted plant, which is exactly the kind of multi-use furniture that's worth the extra layout work up front.
The legs are dowels drilled in at an angle, not vertical — an angled drill attachment holds the bit at a consistent splay while you drill, which is what gives the stand its confident, mid-century-modern stance instead of looking like a flat panel awkwardly balanced on straight sticks.
Cut the panel to your own leaf or geometric shape using a template; the dowel joinery and angled-leg technique are what actually make this project work, and they don't care what outline you trace.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Cut the plywood panel to your chosen leaf or panel shape using a template.
Drill angled holes with a forstner bit for the dowel legs, using an angled drill attachment for a consistent splayed stance.
Cut the dowel legs and the short and long cross braces to length.
Assemble the dowel legs into the panel using glue and pocket screws for the cross braces.
Sand and finish as desired.
