Parsons Console Bookshelf

A true Parsons piece has its end panels flush with the front and top edges, no legs set back or shaped — this console is that same flush, boxy silhouette built from 1x12 shelves and 2x2 end panels rather than a solid slab, which keeps the weight and material cost down while keeping the look. Pocket-hole the shelf sides and attach 2x2 trim to the shelf fronts first, keeping the trim flush with the shelf tops.

Build both end panels identically from 2x2 stock joined with pocket holes and glue, matching the height to whatever look you're after. Assembly is genuinely just two steps after that: screw and glue the ends to the shelves, and you're done — there's no face frame, no door, no drawer to fuss over.

This design scales cleanly into a tall tower, simply by lengthening the legs and shelves to a taller, narrower proportion — the same flush-panel technique carries straight through at any height, since nothing about the joinery changes with the size.
