This is just the base — a clean, minimal 2x2 frame with a footrest rail at the back, designed to pair with whatever desktop you build or buy separately. Keeping the pocket holes on the outside faces of the leg frames is a deliberate choice: it makes a stronger joint than hiding them on the inside would, and since the base sits against the floor and under the desktop, those holes are never actually seen once the desk is finished.
Because this is a build-your-own-desktop system, the desktop itself isn't part of this plan — pick a top that suits your space and attach it from underneath once the base is done.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Build two leg frames with your pocket-hole jig set to the 1-1/2" setting. Place the pocket holes on the outsides of each frame — this makes a stronger joint, and it's hidden by the floor and desktop once everything is assembled. Use glue and 2-1/2" pocket-hole screws.
Attach the two longer 2x2s at the back to join the leg frames, again placing pocket holes on the top and on the underside of the footrest. Use glue and 2-1/2" pocket-hole screws.
Place your desktop on top of the base and attach it from the inside with 2" wood screws.
