Minimalist Plywood Pedestal Table Base

This base is built from four L-shaped leg sets, each one two ripped plywood strips joined at 90° with pocket holes — no 2x lumber anywhere, so the whole base reads as a single clean minimalist column rather than a framed box. Rip a full sheet of veneer plywood into two 16"-wide strips and one 15-1/4"-wide strip, then rip a fourth 15-1/4"-wide strip from one of the 16"-wide pieces, before crosscutting everything into the eight 28-1/2"-long leg pieces.

Drill pocket holes along one edge of each 15-1/4"-wide piece and join it to a 16"-wide piece to build four identical leg sets. Join the four leg sets together with 1x4 end caps at the top rather than a solid plywood platform — this is what keeps the base light while still giving every leg set a shared connection point. Reinforce every joint with scrap plywood and brad nails and glue, since a pedestal base carries the full load of the tabletop through just these four corner joints.

Mending plates on top are the intended tabletop attachment method — for a top that's only 3/4" thick at the attachment points, scrap plywood blocks can substitute for the plates. This base is designed to carry a separately-built round or square top; it does not include instructions for building the top itself.
