A daybed that adds a paneled back and two arms to a storage-bench base, turning a twin bed into a sofa-style daybed with drawers underneath.

This daybed sits on the Hailey Storage Bed bench, so build that base first following its own plan — the drawers and box come from there. Everything below adds the back and arms to it.
Tools: Table Saw. Materials: 2x4 board, 8 ft
Rip the 2x4 legs down to 3" wide, taking 1/4" off each edge to square up the rounded factory corners. This needs a table saw and every panel dimension assumes it — don't skip it or the widths won't work out.
Tools: Circular Saw, Drill / Driver, Pocket Hole Jig. Materials: 3/4" particle board, 4x8 sheet, 1x2 board, 8 ft, 2x4 board, 8 ft, Pocket-hole and wood screws, 1-1/4" and 2-1/2", Wood glue
Assemble the headboard: frame the particle-board panel and join it to the ripped legs with 3/4" pocket holes drilled every 8–12" along the back, glue, and 1-1/4" screws. The panel is big and floppy — get a second person to hold it up while you drive the screws.

Add the bottom 1x4 trim and top 1x2 trim to the headboard panel, then cap it with the 1x3 top. Keep it square.

Build the arms exactly like the headboard but to the arm dimensions — they're essentially taller footboards. Frame the panels, join to ripped legs, add the 1x2 arm trim and 1x3 tops. Remember the dimensions assume 3"-wide legs.

With the bench, arms, and headboard built, assemble without the slats: attach the arms to the front bench first, then the headboard. Fasten the 2x2 slat cleat, level everything, then lay the ~14 slats and space them evenly. Sand and finish.
