This pantry unit skips paint and stain entirely by building from pre-finished white melamine shelving boards, cut to length and joined with pocket holes rather than a plywood carcass that needs its own finish work. Offset every pocket hole slightly to the right on all the shelving board ends — this single detail is what keeps screws in the shared center divider from intersecting each other, since two bays worth of shelves all terminate at that same central board.
Attach the first bay's shelves to their sides first, placing the top and bottom fixed while letting the center shelves land at whatever heights suit your actual pantry items, then repeat the same process for the second bay sharing the center divider. 1x4 bay supports reinforce the whole structure at the top and bottom, painted to match the melamine, and attached to the underside of the shelves with the same pocket-hole method.
A 1/4" plywood back is recommended but genuinely optional — the plan notes it adds real quality and support, painted white to match, stapled or nailed on once the shelving structure is complete. Without it, this is a lighter, faster build; with it, a more rigid one that resists racking over years of loaded shelves.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Drill 3/4" pocket holes, three per end, on all shelving boards, offsetting them slightly to the right on every end to avoid intersecting screws at the center.
Attach shelves at the top and bottom of the first bay, placing center shelves at whatever heights suit your storage needs. Use 1-1/4" coarse thread pocket hole screws.
Repeat to add the second bay of shelving, sharing the center divider with the first bay.
Reinforce the shelving by adding the 1x4 bay supports under the bottom shelf and at the top, attaching to the underside of the shelves with 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws.
For added quality and support, attach the 1/4" plywood back, painted white to match, with 3/4" staples or brad nails.
