A leaning-ladder bookcase where every joint is a 10° angle. The angle is the design — cut it consistently and the shelves float between the legs.

Start by cutting the four outer leg spines to 68-1/2", with both ends at 10° and parallel to each other. Then cut the inner trim pieces, all at 10° on both ends: four bottom-trim spacers at 6", sixteen between-shelf spacers at 13-1/8", and four top-trim spacers at 4-1/2".
Do this with the saw locked at one 10° setting so every angle matches. This is the batch of cuts that defines the whole piece.

Nail the inner spacer pieces to an outer spine, leaving a consistent 3/4" gap between all the boards — that gap plus the board width leaves slightly over 1-1/2" of open slot at the top of each stack, which is where a shelf will land. Use glue and 1-1/4" nails. Build both legs identical; any difference in gap spacing shows up as crooked shelves.

Cut five shelves at 48" (or slightly under, so you can get two out of one 8-ft board). Fit each shelf into the slots left between the inner spacers, centering them side to side on the legs.
Nail through the outer legs into the shelf ends with 2" nails and glue. Check each shelf is level before you commit the nails — on a leaning frame your eye will lie to you.

Measure the actual distance between the legs at the top and cut the two upper rails to fit — both ends mitered at 10° but NOT parallel, roughly 23" long, 22-1/2" short-point to short-point. Nail in place with 1-1/4" nails and glue. Do the same for the lower inside rails.
Measuring the real gap rather than trusting the drawing matters here, because small errors in shelf placement change the span.

Cut two 2x2 pieces at 10" for the tops, predrill from the outside of the legs into the ends of the 2x2, and screw them on keeping the outside edges flush. Then cut two more 2x2s at 10" for the leg bases: keep the inside edge flush and line the bottom inside corner of the 2x2 up with the bottom inside edge of the legs.

Measure from the midpoint of the two base pieces and cut the rear stretcher to fit — roughly 43-1/4" short-point to short-point, both ends mitered at 10°. Predrill and screw it in place to lock the two legs into one rigid frame.

Fill nail holes, sand everything smooth, and finish as desired.
Then anchor it. A leaning bookcase relies on the wall to stay upright — screw the top rail or a bracket into a stud with anti-tip hardware before you load a single book onto it.
