Build: Frame and Panel Planters

1Build the frames

1x3, 8 ft

Build two frames per planter — note that the two planters are sized differently from each other. Use pocket holes and glue.

2Add the top caps

Add the 1x2 top caps to each of the frames.

3Attach the fencing

Fence pickets, 5-1/2" wide x 1/2" thick, 6 ft
Galvanized finish nails
Exterior wood glue

Attach the picket paneling to each frame, starting in the middle and working outward, with galvanized finish nails and exterior wood glue.

4Join the panels — knock-down by design

Exterior screws, for the knock-down joints

Predrill holes and attach the four finished panels together with screws to form each planter box. Skip the glue at this joint on purpose — it's what lets the planters break down flat for winter storage.
