Step-by-step build — 6 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Build the box from the 1x12 top, sides, and bottom, using pocket holes or 1-1/4" brad nails and glue. Every joint on this build gets reinforced — a toy stove takes more abuse per square inch than most furniture in the house.
Attach the back to the sides, top, and bottom. Use shorter (3/4") nails here — longer nails tend to split out the sides and aren't needed just to tack the back on. Keep the whole project square as you attach it.
Attach the front top and bottom rail pieces with 1-1/4" nails and glue, checking for square again as you go.
Build the door panel, ideally with 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws. Attach the plexiglass window with 3/4" wood screws — just one in each corner is enough. Hang the door with self-closing hinges.
Add optional feet to the base for a more finished, appliance-like stance.
Cut wood scrap into grate shapes for the stovetop and nail them down with 1-1/4" nails and glue. Attach the wood-round burner knobs and dowel pieces last.
