This is a small plywood box that hangs flat against the wall and folds open into a desk — hinged at the bottom, so gravity is what keeps it either closed against the wall or open and level as a work surface. Assemble the frame starting from the center and working outward, which keeps you from getting boxed into a corner partway through.
The optional paper-roll feature is genuinely worth the extra 1/2" holes it needs: drilled into the top and bottom of the frame, a long dowel lets a roll of craft paper feed straight through the desk, unspooling as needed rather than sitting loose on top of it. Leave the dowel proud on both ends so it can actually be rolled by hand.
This desk must be anchored into a wall stud, not just drywall anchors — mounted flat against a wall and folded down under a child's weight and activity, it needs real structural support behind it. Use D-ring hangers into at least one stud, with drywall anchors properly rated for the remaining points, never drywall alone. Read hinge-support hardware instructions carefully before installing: some hinge supports don't leave enough clearance if the paper-roll holder is also installed, and a support chain or cable mounted on the outside of the desk is a documented, sturdy workaround.

Assemble the frame pieces starting in the center and working outward so you don't get boxed into a corner. Mark all joints and fasten with glue and 2" finish nails, or screws, or a pocket-hole jig.
Mark the joints and attach the plywood chalkboard panel into the assembled frame.
Drill 1/2"-diameter holes in the top and bottom frame pieces for the paper roll. Leave the dowel long enough on both ends so it can be rolled by hand to feed the paper.
Add optional moulding or trim around the chalkboard edges if wanted. Attach the top to the frame with basic hinges along the bottom edge, so it folds down as a flat desk. Read your hinge support hardware's instructions carefully — some hinge supports need extra clearance if the paper-roll holder is also installed; a chain or cable mounted on the outside is a reliable workaround.
Attach D-ring hanging brackets and mount to the wall. Anchor at least one point into a real wall stud, with the remaining points properly anchored in drywall — never rely on drywall alone for a desk that will be folded down and used regularly.
Sand all edges. Apply chalkboard paint to the panel if using it that way.
