3-in-1 Fire Pit Bench

One section of a modular fire-pit seating ring: a trapezoidal bench, wider at the back than the front, so several of them arc around a fire pit into a hexagon or octagon. The 3-in-1 name comes from the system — build them as benches, or top some as a table, or box one in for storage. This plan is one bench.

The whole thing is 15° cuts. The leg-set pieces are cut at 15° so the two ends of the bench splay to form the trapezoid, and the two leg sets are mirror images of each other. Lay out one leg set, screw it together at the overlaps with 2-3/4" exterior deck screws (add exterior glue for strength), then build the second as a mirror.

Because it lives outside near heat and weather, use exterior deck screws and a rot-resistant or treated species, and space the 2x6 seat slats with an even gap so rain drains and the seat dries. Twelve 2x6 slats top one bench. Cut carefully and check that the two leg sets match before you deck it — a mismatch throws off how the sections meet in the ring.
