1. Measure your pad, then build the box
Tools: Drill / Driver, Pocket Hole Jig, Speed Square, Tape Measure. Materials: 1x4, 10 ft, Pocket hole screws, 1-1/4", Wood glue
Measure your changing pad and dresser top and adjust the plan to fit before cutting. Start by attaching the two ends to the front and back with a Kreg jig, hiding the pocket holes on the insides, to form the basic box.
2. Add the divider
Tools: Drill / Driver, Pocket Hole Jig. Materials: 1x4, 10 ft, Pocket hole screws, 1-1/4"
With the box assembled, add the divider positioned to snug the changing pad on one side and leave a cubby on the other — it works out to a handy spot for wipes.
3. Secure it to the dresser and finish
Tools: Drill / Driver, Pocket Hole Jig. Materials: Pocket hole screws, 1-1/4", Non-toxic finish
The topper must not be able to slide off with a baby on it. Fasten it to the dresser — a few pocket holes down through the back into the dresser top, or an L-bracket — so it stays put. Then finish with a non-toxic, fully-cured-safe finish.
