This is one small, repeatable shape rather than a fixed design: a tall leg, a short leg, and a shelf between them, built twice from a single 1x6 board and then simply positioned wherever the gap between them is useful. There's no fixed spacing to get right — the whole point is that you set the two organizer pieces exactly as far apart as the thing you're organizing (books, folders, a laptop stand) needs them to be.
Each piece assembles the same way: mark the shelf location on both the tall and short leg, then nail or screw through with three fasteners per joint. Build two identical pieces before doing anything else, since matching them exactly is what makes the final organizer sit level.
For a longer shelf than a single 1x6 spans well, the shelf pieces can be cut up to 20" instead of 12" — and if an even longer run is needed, a third organizer piece slots in as a middle support, the same way a bookshelf gets a center standard on a long span.

Carefully mark the shelf location on both the tall leg and the short leg. Attach the shelf to both legs with nails or screws, three per joint. Build two identical organizer pieces.
Position the two organizer pieces as far apart as needed for whatever they're organizing, and adjust as needed. For an even longer shelf, add a third organizer piece as a middle support. Sand and finish.
