Tools: Jigsaw, Random Orbit Sander. Materials: Pine, 1x12, 4 ft
Mark out the profile on both 1x12 side pieces and cut with a jigsaw. Sand the cut edges until smooth and the two sides match each other closely — a mismatched pair is the one thing that gives away a rushed cut on this build.
Tools: Drill / Driver, Pocket Hole Jig. Materials: Pine, 1x12, 4 ft
Cut both shelves from the remaining 1x12 boards to exactly the same length. Drill pocket holes at the 3/4" setting on each end (three per end). Attach the upper shelf first, leaving 8-3/4" of clearance underneath, pocket holes facing down. Then attach the bottom shelf. Use 1-1/4" pocket hole screws.
Tools: Brad Nailer, Jigsaw. Materials: Pine, 1x3, 6 ft
Cut the 1x3 trim boards to shape with a jigsaw if you want a decorative edge, then attach with pocket holes at the ends and 1-1/4" brad nails and glue to the shelves. To avoid visible pocket holes on the most visible top trim piece, consider attaching it with finish nails or screws instead.
Tools: Drill / Driver. Materials: Closet rod, 2 ft, Hooks, Small mirror
Install the closet rod, hooks, and a small mirror. Bins sized to fit a standard closet-bin brand slide neatly into the lower shelf if extra organization is wanted.
