Step-by-step build — 5 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
If you're using reclaimed pallet boards, pull them from the pallet first. Otherwise cut all your boards to size. Drill holes in the ends of the 1x6 bottom boards, two per end, with a countersink bit.
Insert screws into the predrilled holes and apply glue to the joint, then screw the bottom boards to the end pieces, keeping the outside edges flush.
Apply glue to the edges of the bottom and ends — but keep glue out of the gaps between where the side slats will sit, since squeeze-out there won't take stain and will leave a visible blotch. Nail the side slats on with 2" nails and glue.
Mark the handle locations on the ends. Drill holes with a 1-1/2" spade or hole saw bit centered on your marks, then cut between the two holes with a jigsaw to open up a full hand-hold slot.
Attach the caster wheels to the base with the included 3/4" screws.
