Step-by-step build — 11 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Build the two end assemblies. Drill 3/4" pocket holes on both sides of each end panel so the legs can be attached in the next step.
Attach the 2x2 legs to each end panel with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws through the holes drilled in the previous step. Build two leg sets, remembering each is a mirror of the other, not a duplicate.
Add the decorative front piece to each end, keeping the two ends built as mirror images of each other.
Attach the decorative cap to the top of each end — remember the two ends are still mirrors of each other.
Join the two end assemblies together to start forming the bench, attaching the back supports from the back side with pocket holes.
Attach the front apron between the two ends.
Attach the wood drawer slides inside the bench.
Build the drawer to fit your actual opening, testing the fit as you go and leaving a little clearance for it to slide.
Attach the drawer face to finish the drawer off, leaving an even gap around it on all sides. Add the drawer pull.
Build the seat as its own assembly with 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, then attach it to the bench.
Attach the back panel with glue and brad nails. Quarter round can be added along the inside back edge as a finishing touch.
Sand every surface and finish.
