Street Hockey Goal

Build the rectangular base frame. For the indoor version, join the 1x4s with 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket screws. For the outdoor version, build it from 2x4 and join with 2-3/4" exterior screws.

Indoor: join the 2x2 uprights and top rail with 1-1/2" pocket holes and 2-1/2" pocket screws, then attach the cage to the base by screwing through the 1x4s into the 2x2s from outside — two screws per joint. Outdoor: build the upper frame the same way as the base (just with longer legs) using the 2-3/4" screws, then attach it to the base at the bottom corners.

Hold a cross-brace piece in position where it will run from the top of the cage to the back of the base, and mark the angles directly against the frame. Cut them with a circular saw or jigsaw. Marking in place beats calculating the angles — it fits the frame you actually built, not the one on paper.

Fasten the diagonal braces in place with glue and screws — pocket screws for the indoor version, self-tapping screws for outdoor. Then attach the net to the finished frame, sized to the opening. Staples work indoors; outdoors use screw-eyes and cord or zip ties so weather doesn't pull it loose.
