Step-by-step build — 5 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Drill all the pocket holes you'll need in the breadboard frame sides and center panel before starting assembly — it's much easier now than after the frame is glued up.
Join the center panel boards edge to edge with pocket holes and glue, or use a single plywood panel instead for dimensional stability. Attach two opposite breadboard frame sides to the panel first.
Attach the 4x4 legs to the underside of the assembled top at the corners, with pocket screws driven up from inside the frame.
Attach the remaining two breadboard frame sides around the legs, keeping the top flush and square. Drill pocket holes facing upward to connect the frame to the panel with hidden joints where visible.
For extra rigidity, attach the optional 2x4 stretchers between the legs with pocket holes. Sand the whole table and finish.
