Step-by-step build — 6 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Build the two leg-pair ends, using countersunk 2-1/2" screws and glue as an alternative to pocket holes if preferred.
Attach the 2x2 trim to the leg ends.
Build the bottom shelf and attach it to the bottom of the assembled console.
Fit the cross braces by holding each board in place, marking the angles, and cutting — a standard miter saw cuts 50° off square directly; mark with a square if yours doesn't. Build the entire X as its own unit first, gluing and nailing or countersink-screwing from the top and bottom, since these pieces are decorative infill rather than structural bracing.
Attach the completed X assembly inside the end table with a 1-1/2" pocket hole and 2-1/2" pocket hole screw per joint, one screw each. Build the top and attach in place with countersunk 2-1/2" screws.
Add the decorative bolt hardware. Sand and finish.
