This is a picture frame with no picture in it — instead of glass over a fixed photo, clothespins glued across the front let you clip in and swap out whatever you want displayed, whenever you want. That makes it a genuinely useful piece rather than a one-time decoration.
The frame itself is simple butt-jointed 1x2s, so the only thing to watch is square: check the diagonal measurements from opposite corners after assembly and adjust before the glue sets, because a slightly out-of-square frame is very noticeable on a plain open rectangle with nothing else to distract the eye.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Attach the ends square in all four corners with 1-1/4" brad nails and glue. Take diagonal measurements from opposite outside corners and adjust until they match before the glue sets — this is the whole trick to a frame that looks intentional.
Attach the side rails and center bar to the frame, two fasteners per joint, with glue.
Stain the project and let it dry fully. Glue clothespins to the frame — one centered, and additional ones spaced about 6-1/2" from center on each side.
Attach a picture-hanging kit to the back and hang.
