This is a genuinely simple build: a rectangular 2x4 seat frame, four legs screwed in at a slight inward angle to kill wobble, and evenly spaced 2x4 slats across the top. Screwing the legs at a slight angle rather than straight in is the one real technique here — it does more to steady the finished piece than any amount of extra hardware would.
Lay out the tabletop slats with even gaps before driving any screws, and consider marking out the screw hole locations first for a neater, more consistent finished look. 2x2 trim caps both the ends of the tabletop slats and the tops of the legs, finishing the piece whether you top it with a cushion as an ottoman or leave it bare as an accent table.
