Two cutting boards stored separately take up twice the drawer or counter space; these two are shaped so the second one nests directly against the first, which only works if the second board is traced from the actual first board rather than cut to a separate drawing.
The process is template-free by design: cut the first board freehand, then lay it against the second blank and trace its outline directly. Any hand-drawn asymmetry in the first board becomes part of the pair's shared shape instead of a mismatch, which is what makes the two boards nest cleanly.
Using two contrasting wood species makes the nesting relationship visible at a glance once they're stacked, though a single species works fine if that's what you have.

A board foot is a volume, not a length: 144 cubic inches, or a piece 1″ thick by 12″ wide by 12″ long. The “≈” note beside each row shows roughly how much 3/4″ × 6″ board that works out to.

Sketch a freehand cutting-board silhouette with a wide handle opening onto the first board blank. Drill a starter hole if the handle opening is fully enclosed, then cut the outline out with a jigsaw.
Lay the finished first board against the edge of the second blank and trace along it, then complete the second board's outline so the two will nest together once cut.
Cut the second board to match your tracing, then sand or rout-round the edges of both boards to match each other.
Finish both boards with food-safe mineral oil.
Tape a printed egg-holder template to a board with spray adhesive, jigsaw-cut along the untaped edges, drill the egg wells, then remove the template and finish the same way as the boards.
