A modern ladder/truss bookshelf: four 2x4 legs canted outward at 10° carry a stack of wide shelves between them, giving an A-frame silhouette that reads far more designed than its parts list suggests. Everything is 2x4 legs, 2x4 shelf supports, and 1x12 (or 12"-wide) shelving, held together with self-tapping screws and glue.
The only cut that matters is the 10° on the leg ends — cut all four legs the same, parallel ends, and the frame stands plumb with a consistent lean. No miter saw? A protractor plus a jigsaw or circular saw gets there; you just have to be careful the four legs match.
Size the shelf supports to your actual shelving. If you buy nominal 12" shelving it's really 11-1/4", so cut the supports 11-1/4"; if you use full 12" material, cut them 12". Mismatch there and the shelves either overhang the supports or float short of the legs. Keep shelf spans in the 12"–36" range and the shelves won't sag under books.

Cut the four legs with both ends at 10° off square, parallel to each other, so the shelf sits level while the legs lean. A miter saw makes matching cuts easiest, but a protractor with a jigsaw or circular saw works — the key is that all four legs are identical, or the frame will twist.
The supports are all 2x4 cut to match your shelf width — measure your shelving first. If you bought nominal 12" (really 11-1/4"), cut the supports at 11-1/4"; for full 12" material, cut 12". Mark and attach the supports to the legs at each shelf level.
Mark each shelf from the ends so the marks line up with the shelf supports, then screw the shelves down to the supports with 2" screws and glue. Screw the leg-to-support joints with 3" screws. Sand and finish. Keep books to the middle of the longer spans if you're near the 36" limit.
