This is a companion piece meant to sit alongside matching modules from the same collection — build it on its own as a stand-alone cubby hutch, or line up several against a playroom wall for a full storage system. The inner pieces (shelves and divider) aren't structural, so a mix of hidden pocket holes on the undersides plus glued brad nails holds everything together without visible fasteners on the front-facing edges.
Squaring the case matters more here than the joinery method: cut the 1/4" plywood back first and use it to true up the whole carcass before nailing it on, rather than trusting the case to already be square. Any piece taller than about waist height should be anchored to a wall stud — this is an open-front cubby with real weight up top, and it can tip forward if a kid climbs it.

Assumes 8 ft stock, a 1/8" saw kerf, and buying each part at its own width. Change the board size or kerf on the full board plan →
Build the outline of the hutch using a combination of pocket holes (hidden on undersides) and 1-1/4" brad nails with wood glue.
The shelves and center divider aren't structural but still need to be tacked in place with brad nails and glue. Where you can't nail from the outside, angle-nail from the center instead.
Cut the 1/4" plywood back and attach it to all the 1x12 pieces with 3/4" brad nails, using the plywood to square up the whole case so its edges match the square-cut back.
Add the 1x2 top trim to the insides with wood glue and 1-1/4" brad nails.
Add the 3/4" nosing trim to the top front edge. If installing, tall pieces need to be anchored to wall studs to prevent tipping forward, and multiple modules should be attached together. Sand and finish.
