Flower Shaped Storage Play Table

This can be built with plywood scraps for the storage box, or with 1x3 and 1x6 boards as a substitute. When cutting the plywood, make long, straight full-length cuts to conserve material: first rip a 6"-wide strip and a 2-1/2"-wide strip the length of the sheet, then cross-cut the remainder for the tabletop and storage-box bottom. Measure and cut as you go — the blade's kerf means you can't mark every cut ahead of time.

On the tabletop blank, mark the center and measure out 14" along several reference lines radiating from it (a string line works well for this). Draw an arch between each pair of marked points, repeating the same arch shape — a paper template traced and flipped around the circle keeps every petal identical.

Carefully cut out the marked petal shapes with a jigsaw and set the tabletop aside.

Drill two 3/4" pocket holes on each end of each storage-box side, and attach to the legs, flush to the insides, with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws. Build two leg-and-side subassemblies first, then join the remaining two sides to close up the box — leave a 2" gap underneath for clearance.

Attach the plywood bottom inside the storage box.

Attach the aprons to the top of the base, drilling a pocket hole facing upward in the center of each one for attaching the tabletop in the next step.

Line up the leg outside corners with an inside point on the flower top, centering so every petal point is an equal distance from the leg corners. Screw the base to the tabletop.

Sand every surface and edge smooth, then finish.
