Floating Boxes Nightstand

Connect two sides to the top and bottom for each box, keeping all edges flush and using glue throughout. Drill through the sides into the top and bottom boards, or use a pocket hole jig. These are easy to customize — cut the boards longer or shorter to build any number of boxes in any size you like.

Paint or stain the boxes before mounting. Attach a support board inside each box, positioned to sit just under the top and flush with the back — drill through the top and sides of the box into the support, or use a pocket hole jig.

Locate wall studs before drilling. Attach each box to the wall by driving screws through the support board — 2-1/2" or longer, depending on your drywall thickness. Confirm the boxes are level. The larger box is wide enough to guarantee at least one stud; if the smaller box doesn't land on a stud, anchor it with hardware rated for your wall type and its expected load.

For a more invisible mount, paint the support boards to match your wall color.
