This small table's real feature is the X detail scribed directly into each leg pair rather than built from a fixed cut list — the 2x2 X pieces get cut at an angle determined by holding them against the actual assembled legs, not measured from a plan number. That scribe-and-cut approach is what makes the X sit flush and tight against legs that may vary slightly from the plan's exact dimensions.
Build each leg set with a deliberate 1-1/2" gap left under the bottom shelf — a spare 2x board makes a handy spacer to get that height consistent between both leg sets before the shelf boards ever go on permanently. The 2x2 side aprons attach next, ideally with the screws driven at a slight angle for a stronger joint than a dead-perpendicular screw gives.
The tabletop is planked 2x6, laid face-down on a flat surface and screwed up into the base from underneath — building it this way, rather than flipping an assembled base onto a finished top, is what lets you keep the boards tight and even as you fasten them. This design publishes in two sizes; the cut list here is the larger table, with the smaller size's numbers carried in the notes.

Attach the legs to two of the 2x6 shelf boards with 2-1/2" screws, edges flush on top and outside. Leave a 1-1/2" space underneath the bottom shelf — a spare 2x board makes a good spacer to get the height consistent between both leg sets.
Scribe and cut the X detail directly against the assembled legs, following a reference guide for the scribing technique.
Attach the 2x2 side aprons to the leg sets with glue and 2-1/2" self-tapping screws, driven at a slight angle for a stronger joint.
Use 2-1/2" screws to attach the shelf boards to the 2x2 side aprons.
Lay the tabletop boards face down on a flat surface. Attach the base to the boards with 2-1/2" screws and glue driven from underneath. Sand and finish.
