Entryway Accessory Wall Cubby Organizer

Measure the wall space where the organizer will hang and decide on overall dimensions before cutting anything. As a starting point, cubbies of roughly 5" x 10" work well for hats and gloves — plan for a top and bottom piece, with no gap needed below the bottom shelf. Depth isn't critical, since every part is cross-cut from the same 1x6 stock.

Assemble the sides, top, and bottom with 1-1/4" brad nails and wood glue to form the outer frame.

Build the inner grid of dividers and shelves as its own separate assembly, then place it inside the outer frame and attach. Some corners will need nailing at an angle to reach. Use cut-to-height spacer blocks to help place both the vertical dividers and the horizontal shelves consistently, rather than measuring and marking every location individually.

Continue placing any remaining shelves, again using a cut-to-height spacer block as your guide.

Mark the location of every center shelf and divider on the outside of the sides. Cut the 1/4" plywood back to size, run glue along the back edges of the shelves and dividers, and set the plywood in place. Use a straight edge to connect your marks and guide nail placement, then attach the back with 5/8" brad nails and glue.

Hang through the back plywood into wall studs, or use a picture-hanging kit or French cleat mounted to the back if studs aren't available where you need them.
