Classic Cubby Series — 9 Cubby Bookshelf (Face-Framed)

Build the box from the sides, top, bottom, and middle uprights with 3/4" pocket holes, 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, and glue.

Build the back face frame flat on the bench with a pocket-hole jig, then attach it to the back of the box with 1-1/4" finish nails and glue.

Build the front face frame the same way as the back, then attach with pocket holes to the box front, secured further with 1-1/4" finish nails and glue.

Add moulding to the face frames if wanted, cut to fit the assembled frames rather than to a fixed length.

Install the shelves either with pocket holes on the underside — two per end, near the outside edges, with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws — for fixed shelving, or with shelf pins drilled using a shelf-pin jig for adjustable shelving. Sand and finish.
