Step-by-step build — 4 steps. Also available as a print sheet.
Build the outer frame from the two sides and top/bottom shelves using pocket holes (3/4" setting, 1-1/4" pocket screws) — 1-1/4" brad nails and glue or wood screws (self-tapping, 1-3/4" to 2-1/4") work as well if you don't have a jig.
Add the remaining shelves, preferably with screws for the extra holding strength a mounted hose reel needs. Nail and glue the center plywood mounting panel into place.
Attach the optional back panel with 5/8" to 3/4" brad nails. Hang the organizer on the wall through the 3/4" center panel, using screws long enough for your wall type and driven into studs — not just drywall anchors, given the weight of a loaded hose reel.
Lightly sand with 120-grit sandpaper, clean off the residue, and apply a wood stain with a lint-free rag. Mount your hose hanger and attachment hardware to the 3/4" center panel per its manufacturer's instructions.
