This console puts three drawers front and center above open shelves rather than combining shelves with hinged doors — a genuinely different storage layout from this catalog's other consoles. Build the main plywood box first, drilling pocket holes facing forward along the underside of the bottom shelf while you're at it, since that's what the front footer will attach to in a later step and it's easier to reach now.
Attach a 1x4 back support, not the thinner 1x2 shown in some older diagrams — this plan's own build note upgrades that detail, since the drawer slides need something more substantial than a 1x2 to attach to reliably. Build the front face frame separately and attach it inset and flush to the front of the console.
Build the drawer boxes to fit their actual openings and to the specs of your chosen center-mount slides, adjusting as necessary — this catalog's own shopping-list note recommends bottom center-mount slides specifically, which need an additional 1x2 added to the inside front of the console to give the slide hardware something to anchor to; add this piece if you're using that slide type. Install drawers with the front inset 3/4" to allow the drawer face to sit proud, then attach the faces with an 1/8" gap on all sides. The back attaches last with glue and finish nails or staples, and the front gets a final trim pass to finish the piece.

Assemble the top, sides, and bottom into the main console box, drilling 3/4" pocket holes facing forward along the underside of the bottom shelf for attaching the front footer later.
Attach the 1x4 back support to give the drawer slides something substantial to attach to.
Build the front face frame separately and attach it inset and flush to the front of the console.
Trim out the top edges with 1x2s, cut to fit; consider mitering the corners at 45° for a nicer finish.
Build drawer boxes to fit the openings and to spec with the bottom center-mount drawer slides, adjusting as necessary.
For bottom center-mount slides, add the remaining 1x2 to the inside of the front for the slides to anchor to. Install drawer slides and drawers, with the front inset 3/4" to allow the drawer face to sit proud.
Attach the drawer faces with an 1/8" gap around all sides to the drawer boxes.
Attach the back with glue and finish nails or staples. Trim the front of the console to finish.
Attach the open shelves with trim below the drawer section.
Sand all surfaces, apply edge banding to exposed plywood edges, and finish with primer and paint, or stain and poly.
